Back home

We are finally back in Malmö again after a good and productive week in London. The two songs we went there to record are finished and now Thomas is working on the mixes. We listened to the first one this morning and closed it around 5. Everyone is happy and satisfied. Now we are waiting for the second one. It will probably come tonight or tomorrow morning. Very exiting.

Dyre resting before a long night of cutting, going through the recordings and making a rough mix for us.

Nikolaj and Nikolaj recording guitar.

Caisa's new sweetheart, a Fender precision bass from -71 that she bought from Nikolaj's brother. Beautiful!

On our way home the train was canceled and we had to get to another station to catch another train to the airport. We and every else. The underground was crowded with people running around pushing eachother to get in time to whatever. It was hysterical but taxi was not an option during rush hour.
We arrived at Gatwick 10 minutes before the plane was taking off, and check-in had closed. They would NOT let us in.
After cuing for a hour in an line to get tickets for the next flight we were finally at the counter, just to find out that check-in for the last flight to Copenhagen had closed 2 minutes ago and it was now too late to buy tickets.
With some help from people back home we managed to book tickets for a flight next morning at 7.20... from Heathrow!

Stairs... train... more stairs... another train... even more stairs... and another train... taxi to the closest hotel... sleeping for 3 hours... 5.15 wakie wakie... taxi to the ariport... cuing and cuing and cuing... boarding... flying... train again... and taxi.

It's a long way home from London!

Studio

After the second day in the studio we are almost done with the singing. Now Nicolai is cooking us chicken-something. Smells deliscious! He's a chef (used to work with Jamie Oliver) so we're quite spoiled with good food here.

Malin's suitcase, which have been lost for a few days, is now tracked down to Las Palmas but on it's way here. Good for her and us all, because before we checked in we all put a bunch of stuff in Malin's bag because it's so big. Turned out to be a bad idea.

... Smells like food is ready!

First day of recording

We have finished tracking the 2 songs and have two great backgrounds. Now singing and overdubs... or maybe tomorrow.

Early morning

Wakeup call at 5.30 tomorrow morning. Puh! That's not funny.
I think we will go straight to the studio when we arrive tomorrow and start rehearsing the songs with the rest of the band. We need some drums and maybe some more guitars and piano. It will show tomorrow. You never know what you end up playing when you enter the studio. At least anything could happen when we worked in Tambourine. Hopefully it's the same here.

London next

We're preparing for our trip to London next week. It's the third time we return to this studio and this time it's not to write songs, but to record two of the songs we have written.
We have decided to expand our cooperation, since the songwriting part worked so well and we have the feeling that recording too can be interesting.

A new studio, new producers and a whole new way of working probably. Will we play and sing everything at the same time, or will we track the backgrounds first and do overdubs later?
Very thrilling.
We have no idea how the sound of this studio will fit with our own sound and if the result will be good. It's a trial and hopefully we will find a great recording model and create something great.

The worst part of the process is always the singing because it's so exposing and you have to feel comfortable and inspired to find the right feeling. That might take a while, and we only have a few days.

Amid all the familiar creative journeys made back and forth between Europe and the United States, a brand new route opened up for business in 2006. Its the one between Malmö and Nashville, with a little diversion to Dublin, and the group making the connection is Calaisa. The four girls in Calaisa demonstrated that the pop sensibilities of Scandinavia ...
